Another poem
Hi all. While I drown in highlighted notes in preparation for my AS exams, I thought I’d offer you another Arvon poem. This one was the fruit of being forced to pick out two words from a hat and turning them into a title. I’m not sure about the result, so let me know what you think.
Iris envelope
It opened itself
Like a paper god figurine
Lifting its white eyelids
And declaring your fate with a stare
You couldn’t look
Knotted your eyes shut
Scared suddenly of scrawls sliding
Out of their flat encasement
You prized one eye open
Just enough to pop
The envelope in the bin
Then focused your pupils
And began
